They will be held from 18 to 23 October 2021 and will provide a platform for academics, experts, professionals and participants to exchange information on diseases and their management.

The first Scientific and Medical Days of Douala (JSMD) will be held at the Akwa village hall. It is the merger of the Medical Days of Douala that planned to organize the Urban Community of Douala (CUD) and the Scientific Symposium of Douala that the University of Douala was preparing to organize with the partnership of the Jean Monnet University. Douala University was about to organize with the partnership of the Jean Monnet University of Saint-Etienne alternating between Douala and Saint-Etienne from one year to another.

The organization of the (JSMD) comes in a context of Covid-19 pandemic and the responsibility of decentralized communities to ensure the health of populations. But access to quality health care in the city of Douala is still limited despite the improvement of health structures, the increase in quality health facilities and the multiplication of vaccination operations.

"The JSMD reflect the policy of the CUD to promote research and health of the populations of the city with the partnership of the Scientific Committee of the Universities of Douala and Jean Monnet of Saint-Etienne," recalled September 9, 2021, Roger Mbassa Ndinè, Mayor of Douala. This was during the press conference to launch the said days. They will also know the participation of actors of socio-professional sectors and hospitals in the city, to reach the populations of the most remote areas.

"The hospital centres will not go to the site, but will benefit from human and technical capacity building as well as specialists who will come from the city. The hospitals will not go to the site, but will benefit from human and technical capacity building as well as specialists who will come from Saint-Etienne," said Dr. Bienvenu Bongue, a lecturer at the University of Douala and facilitator of this cooperation. For six days, the 50,000 people expected to attend these days will be educated and accompanied on the health plan.

It will be a question of tackling, on the one hand, cardio-metabolic diseases which constitute the first cause of death and disability in the world and, on the other hand, occupational diseases such as Burnouf syndrome, which are the cause of absenteeism and a decrease in performance in companies. The JSMD will provide a platform for academics, experts, professionals and participants to discuss these diseases, their risks, the challenges and the local and international opportunities for management.
