Belgium/La langue française en fête will be celebrated in Genappe, named City of Words 2024

The town of Genappe (Walloon Brabant) has been selected as Ville des Mots 2024 for La langue française en fête, the cultural center "Le 38" announced on Monday. For a week in March, the French-speaking world will be honored here and throughout the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (FWB), with the participation of local actors and authorities.

Through a variety of cultural activities, La langue française en fête aims to "remind all users of the French-speaking world that language belongs to them, and that it is a vector of creativity and personal fulfillment".

This year, it will take place from March 18 to 24, around the Journée internationale de la francophonie (March 20). To mark the occasion, the City of Genappe and "Le 38", in collaboration with the FWB, are planning a program featuring slams, performances, guided tours, art installations in the town and other workshops.

Almost all of these activities will be free of charge , and will take place at various locations around the town. Also every year, a list of 10 words is drawn up on a common theme to serve as a common thread for multiple creative approaches to celebrating the French language. Under the theme of sport, the words chosen for this edition are: adrenaline, escape, prowess, go for the oranges, champion, mental, rope, collective, offside and false start.
