On 26 November, the NGO Europa is inviting some twenty public policy specialists to come and debate the policies of local and regional authorities in Europe for the economic development of their territories. This is a vast subject which nevertheless reveals the disparities between these areas.

For its 25th annual colloquium, which will take place on 26 November, the NGO Europa is placing its debate at the heart of current events by tackling "the policies of local and regional authorities in Europe for the economic development of their territories".
A subject that Michel Senimon, the NGO's delegate general, and Christophe Bonnotte, its secretary general, know to be a delicate one, as the approach can be so diverse.

Competition rather than complementarity

"What are we talking about when we talk about economic development in the territories or territories? There are as many territorial development methods as there are territories," says Christophe Bonnotte. The stated objective of these policies is commendable, with the desire to bring about a positive change in the standard of living and quality of life of citizens. This involves actions on infrastructures, education, etc. But we can also see that the territories are in competition with each other rather than acting in a complementary manner. This competition is unhealthy. There is a feeling that the territories always need to be the best. This cannot apply to everyone in every field.

For Michel Senimon, "the policies have a vision but we must define how the competences of each one are articulated to create a coherent whole".

Sustainable development

With this question raised by Christophe Bonnote, "should the increasing crises lead to the promotion of more sustainable development methods? »

To answer these questions, the NGO has called on some twenty European specialists who will speak either in person or remotely. The conference can be followed under the dome of Ester Technopole or on the Internet through a webinar designed as an interactive television program.
