Belgium

For a year now, you've had to reach into your pocket to park in Schaerbeek. A decision that has caused an outcry among the local residents. Two euros per hour are needed to park your car, even on Saturdays.

So to ease the transition, the municipal authorities are making a gesture: 10 parking tickets will be offered to 40,000 motorists. "It's important that for any change, we help with the transition. Our proposal is that the first ten cards should be free of charge, so that from the eleventh onwards it will be necessary to pay", explains Adelheid Byttebier, alderman for mobility in Schaerbeek.

For the moment the procedure for applying for this offer is not yet clear, the details have to be discussed with Parking. brussels, the regional agency in charge of the controls. But the project is already budgeted for 2021, "it could cost the municipality a maximum of 150,000 euros," the alderman points out.

The commune of Schaerbeek could also review a few points, notably by changing the rules for Saturdays and no longer charging for parking after 6 p.m.
