In Togo, the ExpandPF project, an initiative supported by the Association Togolaise pour le Bien-être Familial (ATBEF) and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), aims to identify the needs of health facilities in the districts of Kloto, Haho and Est-Mono, in order to better support them in the area of reproductive health.

A data collection mission was launched and completed last week, from April 15 to 19, in 40 intervention sites in these localities, to assess the capacities of service providers and the quality of long-term family planning services. "The main objective of this initiative, officially launched on March 26, 2024 by the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, is to identify the real needs of health facilities.", it states. "Through an approach focused on social and behavioral change, ExpandPF seeks to bring family planning services closer to marginalized communities, using strategies such as community-based distribution and contraception for adolescents and young people," it adds.

The data collected will form the basis of a comprehensive evaluation report, accompanied by a targeted improvement plan.

The ExpandPF project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the tune of $49.5 million. The initiative aims to strengthen the quality of family planning and reproductive health services in Togo. This is part of a wider regional vision. At national level, the project is piloted by ATBEF for a period of 5 years (2023-2028).
