On Tuesday March 26, Professor Moustafa Mijiyawa, Minister of Health, inaugurated the ExpandPF program, funded to the tune of $49.5 million by the US agency USAID. Supported by the Association Togolaise pour le Bien-être Familial (ATBEF) and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the program aims to improve access to and use of quality family planning services across the country.

This five-year program will be deployed at 40 health sites in three districts, namely Est-Mono, Haho and Kloto. For the promoters, the launch of this project comes in response to a persistent observation of limited access to family planning in several countries, including Togo.

Beyond its local impact, ExpandPF also aims to influence policies and practices in the countries of the region, as well as engaging the private sector, civil society and national decision-makers. The project is part of the Ouagadougou Partnership (launched in 2011, which supports the acceleration of family planning services in nine West African countries: Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal), in addition to Cameroon; and FP2030, a global planning initiative.
