King Mohammed VI has given instructions for the launch of "Ramadan 1442", the 22nd edition of the solidarity food distribution operation. This operation will benefit three million people: 600,000 households at the national level, including 459,504 from rural areas.

In application of the High Royal Instructions, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has mobilized for the implementation and launch of food support for vulnerable and deprived populations," the Foundation said in a statement. The Foundation said in a statement that the distribution of aid will start on the first day of Ramadan, Wednesday, April 14 in Morocco. Initiated since 1999, this large-scale solidarity operation has been ongoing despite the health emergency, the same source added.

A national solidarity

In this time of pandemic, national solidarity and mutual aid are essential to relieve modest families weakened by the socio-economic impacts of the health crisis, the statement said. The operation, organized with the financial support of the Ministry of the Interior (General Directorate of Local Communities) and the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, is based on food support consisting of of seven food products (10 kilograms of flour, 5 liters of vegetable oil, 4 kg of sugar, 1 kg of lentils, 1 kg of vermicelli, 850 grams of tomato concentrate and 250 grams of tea) and will help alleviate the burden of food needs related to the holy month of Ramadan, the Foundation said.

Security arrangements

This 22nd edition is marked by an implementation mechanism that complies with the safety provisions issued by local authorities.Various measures to prevent health risks have been adopted at the level of local monitoring committees to ensure the health and safety of populations. These include disinfection of supply centres, food baskets and transport vehicles, physical distancing, reduction of dedicated staff and direct delivery of aid.

The beneficiary heads of households (widows, elderly people, people with disabilities and people living in precarious conditions), identified by the provincial committees supervised by the Ministry of Health, have been given the opportunity to receive the aid.The provincial committees supervised by the Ministry of the Interior are informed in advance by the caïdats for the distribution of foodstuffs door-to-door. To this end, special logistics will be deployed in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior in order to avoid the displacement of beneficiaries. It will involve, in small teams on the ground, local authorities, regional directorates of the National Mutual Aid, the Royal Gendarmerie and social assistants of the General Directorate of Social Services.
