The commune of Espalion and the Département signed a partnership agreement in the council chamber of the town hall.

The Aveyron Territoires project contract (CPAT) aims to strengthen collaboration between the municipality and the département on projects of communal interest. At the official signing ceremony, Éric Picard, mayor of Espalion, Arnaud Viala, president of the departmental council, and Jean-Claude Anglars, senator and departmental councillor for the canton, all welcomed the partnership. This contract is based on the desire to work together on projects that will contribute to the development and attractiveness of the commune.

A major player in Espalion

Arnaud Viala reminded the audience that the Département has a strong presence in Espalion, in human terms, thanks to its permanent staff; in terms of its assets, with several buildings of its own and a substantial road network; and through its involvement in the local economy. It is also involved in solidarity, financing a range of services and social action, as well as infrastructure projects such as the rollout of very high-speed broadband. He also underlined the many initiatives supported by the Département in Espalion in all artistic and cultural fields.

A partnership tool

As part of its "AveyrOn se bouge" project, the Département de l'Aveyron is strengthening its commitment to the development of Aveyron's territories. To this end, it offers the CPAT, a partnership tool designed to support communes and intercommunalités in carrying out their projects. Thanks to its skills, its territorial engineering offer and its support for structuring investments, the Département wishes to contribute to the balance and social cohesion of the territories by being a major player in regional development.

CPAT's flagship projects in Espalion

Sébastien Durand, the département's technical contact for the commune of Espalion, listed the operations included in the CPAT. Among the flagship projects are the modernization of the Musée du Scaphandre and the restructuring of the département's museographic offering, the restoration and animation of the Château de Calmont d'Olt, the rehabilitation of the former train station to accommodate associations, renovation of the mill causeway to preserve the water mirror on the old bridge, and development of public spaces in the town center.

The Département will also support the commune in improving road safety, developing soft mobility and creating a space for teenagers. The restructuring of the vacation village and the upgrading of the Roc de l'Arche municipal campsite are also priorities for enhancing the tourist appeal of Nord-Aveyron.

Finally, the enhancement of the town's heritage with the modernization of lighting at several monuments, the construction of a teenagers' area and a pumptrack, the creation of a new rugby stadium, the renovation of the Francis-Poulenc center and the municipal swimming pool are also planned.

This partnership between the commune of Espalion and the Département promises numerous cultural and tourist projects up to 2026, contributing to the commune's development and appeal.
