The Quebec government announces the call for projects for the Stations de nettoyage d'embarcations program to counter the spread of aquatic invasive species and pathogenic organisms in aquatic fauna. Recipients of the Stations de nettoyage d'embarcations program will be able to submit projects continuously until March 1, 2027, until the $6.4 million budget envelope is exhausted.

Through this program, Québec wishes to financially support local municipalities or regional county municipalities, non-profit organizations (NPOs) dedicated to wildlife conservation and development, as well as aboriginal communities and nations recognized by the Québec National Assembly, in their efforts to control the spread of invasive species in water bodies. communities and nations recognized by the Quebec National Assembly, in their efforts to control the spread of invasive species in water bodies. Financial assistance amounts to a maximum of 80% of total eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $30,000 per project.

Clean up to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species

Once an invasive species has become established in the natural environment, i.e., is surviving and reproducing efficiently, it becomes virtually impossible to dislodge it, and very costly to control. Preventive measures, such as cleaning boats and fishing equipment, are the most effective, least costly and most likely to reduce risks.

In total, the program will fund the installation and upgrading of boat cleaning stations in 28 municipalities in 11 regions of Quebec for the year 2023-2024. And since the program's inception, 129 boat cleaning stations have been funded, including some in Témiscouata.
