The round table "La francophonie : quelles définitions, quelles approches, quelles critiques ?" took place on Wednesday April 24, both in Hanoi and online.

Who among us isn't proud to be a Francophone and a member of La Francophonie? It's much more than just a group of nations sharing a common language. It embodies universal values such as diversity, solidarity, peace and respect. It reflects our common heritage, our shared history and our collective future. It is a space where linguistic and cultural diversity flourishes, fostering exchange, mutual understanding and cooperation. We must also take into account the economic, social and environmental challenges affecting our societies. La Francophonie has an essential role to play in building a fairer, more inclusive and more sustainable world. It deserves our attention and our commitment.

During the discussion session, participants listened to "More than a language" by Dinh Hông Vân, a teacher at ULIS; "La Francophonie: vue d'un universitaire chinois" by Youzhong Fang, lecturer at the Beijing University of International Studies (China); "L'Université de la Polynésie française: un acteur engagé au service de la francophonie dans le Pacifique" by Nabila Gaertner-Mazouni, professor at the University of French Polynesia; and "La Francophonie au Vietnam: quelle utilité?"by Dô Quynh Huong, professor at the University of Hanoi.

French is a language of precision, softness, melody and romance," says Dinh Hông Vân. He adds: "French, along with English, is the only language used on every continent. It is the ninth most widely spoken language in the world, behind Chinese, English, Indian, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Bengali and Portuguese. French is the2nd language of international information and the4th most widely used language on the Internet, with 180 million users".

In addition, Francophonie players and academics discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the French-speaking world, exchanging views to enrich the understanding of the Francophonie in the world.hension of the Francophonie in Southeast Asia, shared experiences and considered concrete actions to make the Francophonie a springboard for students and for French-speaking countries.
