France/Country of Châteaulin. They give a second chance to our old objects

A partnership between the association Ty Lien and the community of communes Pleyben - Châteaulin - Porzay (Finistère) is going to make it possible to deposit small pieces of furniture and objects in rubbish bins one Saturday per month, to give them a second chance. Once rebuilt, they will be sold at very low prices in Châteaulin.

Dishes in working order, gardening tools, DIY tools, bicycles, books, toys, small household appliances... The Ty Lien association, located in the train station district of Châteaulin (Finistère), gives a second life to everyday objects that are no longer in use. Repaired or cleaned, they are put back in the circuit and sold, for a few euros, in the 140 m² of the shop.

Eager and impatient to take the approach a little further, Ty Lien contacted the Pleyben - Châteaulin - Porzay community of municipalities (CCPCP) a few months ago to be present in the three waste collection centres in the area. " It seems like a long time, but it will be structured and more beneficial for everyone," says Didier Planté, mayor of Ploéven and deputy vice-president for waste management.

Tracking tonnages

Because we don't do what we want to do about it. Everything that goes in and out of the garbage dumps must be traceable. This applies to the financing of the service... and indirectly to the bill to the taxpayer. "We receive aid for the recycling of certain materials, we must be able to tell our financers where the tonnages have gone. Otherwise, we risk losing the equivalent support. "

Hence the delay in implementation and adjustment of the project, compared to the original idea. One skip per site had to be installed to allow the inhabitants to deposit their belongings there, it will finally be days of voluntary contribution, every last Saturday of the month.

A larger project but later

The dumpster will be for time 2," explains Christel Vessaire, from the CCPCP's waste department. When the study on the territory-wide recycling project, designed by Ty Lien, is completed. "Until then, one day a month, it's a good time to see how it takes."

The first event takes place Saturday, January 30, 2021 in Châteaulin (Péren). Users who wish to do so will be able to present their treasures to the association's volunteers.

Right of second life or death

However, beware of those who would think of forking over the interior of grandmother's house en bloc. Ty Lien doesn't take large pieces of furniture or clothes. " We don't have the space," explains Emeric, administrator and treasurer of the association. " And we already have partnerships with other organizations for that," says Christel Vessaire.

Beware of the crocodile!

There is also the legal framework. No stuffed turtle or caiman shells," smiles Emeric, who has already experienced the scene. Any object from protected animal species or counterfeit is refused. "

The same goes for safety equipment, such as bicycle helmets and car seats. " We can't tell if they're safe. "

Repairing without too much energy

Ethics also have their place. We're wondering about toasters," says Emeric. On the other hand, for those who have bicycles and tires that sleep in garages, it's a good idea. "We can't find a room right now."
