France - NOTE AUX COLLECTIVITÉS TERRITORIALES /Replay of the event "L'engagement international des collectivités territoriales au service de la diplomatie sportive : enjeux et perspectives" held at the Senate on Monday March 17, 2025
On Monday March 17, 2025, on the initiative of Loïc HERVÉ - Vice-President of the Senate - and in partnership with the Delegation for Local Authorities and Civil Society (DCTCIV) and the Delegation for Sport of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Senate organized a round table on the theme: "The international commitment of local authorities in the service of sports diplomacy: issues and prospects".
This round-table discussion provided an opportunity to highlight the actions implemented by local authorities to promote the practice of sport internationally, at a time when the DCTCIV's call for Sport and Decentralized Cooperation projects has met with great success since its launch. The DCTCIV's call for Sport and Decentralized Cooperation projects (renewed for a new edition, 2025) has been a resounding success since its launch in 2021.
Senators, representatives of French and foreign local authorities, institutional partners in decentralized cooperation and researchers were on hand to share their experiences in two themed sessions.
- Sport as a lever for sustainable development and the fight against global inequalities in access to sport.
- Local authorities, key players in sports diplomacy for regional development.
They discussed sport as a key tool for French cooperation with numerous partner countries, including Senegal - which was honored on this occasion - which will host the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar in 2026.
