The streets and public spaces of Grand-Nokoué, namely Cotonou, Sèmè-Podji, Abomey-Calavi, Porto-Novo and Ouidah, have been clean for several years now, thanks to Société de gestion des déchets solides (Sgds).

The government intends to go even further by building a new transfer center with semi-mechanized sorting units in Abomey-Calavi. Sgds-Sa relies on management infrastructures such as transfer centers, which are transit points for solid and household waste collected from households. The construction of such infrastructure helps to reduce the high cost of transporting waste in low-capacity containers. The new center planned for Abomey-Calavi will therefore reinforce the modernization of solid waste management and optimize the related costs.
