France/Dordogne: the commune of Faux is to change its name
The municipal council of Faux (Dordogne) had requested a change in the commune's name due to administrative difficulties. Faux will be called Faux-en-Périgord from January 1ᵉʳ 2025.
This is really good news for the mayor of Faux (Dordogne). On Saturday August 10, the commune's name was changed by a decree published in the Journal Officiel. "We're very pleased that our request has been accepted," the mayor told France Bleu Périgord on hearing the news.
Problems with Excel and the administration
"We've done a lot of work to justify the process. We didn't do it for the fun of it, we had a lot of constraints in the digital age. The single 'Faux' was not taken into account in certain Excel tables and this posed some administrative problems," explains the mayor, who put the name change to the vote during the town council meeting of May 24, 2023. "It happened on several occasions that we were obliged to take steps because Faux had not been taken into account" by certain administrations. The change was also validated by the departmental council on October 3, 2023.
The name change will be effective from 1ᵉʳ January 2025. "We will have a precise identification in relation to Périgord and the other Faux that exist in France" continues the mayor, who will have to order new signs for the entrance to his commune: Faux-en-Périgord.
