The Museum of the Bamoun Kings, located in Foumban in Cameroon's West region, officially opened its doors to the public on Saturday April 13, 2024, after two days of festivities. The event, held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, marked the culmination of a long project to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Bamoun people.

A showcase for Bamoun history

Designed to house a collection of over 12,500 objects, the Musée des Rois Bamoun is a showcase for the history and culture of this thousand-year-old people. From ancestral thrones and weapons of war to musical instruments and royal finery, the museum traces the evolution of the Bamoun kingdom through the centuries.

A grand opening

The museum's inauguration was marked by two days of festivities featuring traditional dances, concerts and lectures. The highlight of the event was the cutting of the museum cake by the Sultan of the Bamoun, His Majesty Mbombo Njoya.

An asset for Cameroonian cultural tourism

The opening of the Museum of the Bamoun Kings is a major event for cultural tourism in Cameroon. This new heritage jewel should attract many visitors from Cameroon and beyond to discover the richness of Bamoun culture.
