France/ Pluguffan. 37 Welshmen from Llandovery celebrate 40 years of twinning
Set up in 1983 by a group of friends, the twinning committee between Pluguffan (Finistère) and Llandovery (Wales) celebrates its 40th anniversary in the summer of 2023.
Created in 1983 by a group of friends, including Hélène and Bruno Le Rumeur, Albert and Anne-Marie Corfa, Per Pennarun, Marc Poriel and Jean-René Tréflez, the Pluguffan-Llandovery twinning committee celebrates its 40th anniversary in the summer of 2023.
Officially, the marriage between Pluguffan (Finistère) and Llandovery, a farming town of 2,200 inhabitants in central, south-west Wales, was celebrated on August 25, 1984, in Pluguffan, in the presence of around a hundred Welsh people.
Forty years of sharing
Numerous exchanges have marked these forty years of sharing: choirs have travelled together, walking and cycling groups have visited, a rugby team has come to Pluguffan, and young people on both sides of the Channel have enjoyed numerous language and cultural stays.
This weekend, a busy program awaited the 37 Welshmen, welcomed for three days by some 50 Bretons: a visit to Quimper, Pont-Croix and Locronan, a tour of the Hénaff museum in Pouldreuzic and a festive meal on Saturday evening.
In 2024, it will be the Pluguffanais' turn to visit Llandovery. " The date has not yet been set, but we invite anyone interested to contact the twinning committee," advises president Yannig Menguy.
