The government's ambition is to lift localities in the northern border zone out of extreme poverty. In order to reduce the effects of the growing fragility in this part of Côte d'Ivoire, a local committee for the targeting of new households benefiting from the social safety net program has been set up in the Tougbô sub-prefecture (Bounkani region).

The official presentation of the members of the said committee was made on Friday, June 24, 2022, in the presence of the Minister of Solidarity and Fight against Poverty, Myss Belmonde Dogo and elected officials and executives of the region.

This local committee composed of all the corporations of the sub-prefecture of Tougbô will be in charge of pre-selecting the households eligible for the social safety net program. This local committee, composed of all the corporations in the Tougbô sub-prefecture, will be responsible for pre-selecting households eligible for the social safety net program before administering a survey on their standard of living, followed by verification by the competent services.

After the presentation of the members of this committee, the Minister of Solidarity and Fight against Poverty said that the choice of Tougbo is not accidental. Indeed, this sub-prefecture located in the northern border area is one of the localities with a high rate of vulnerable groups in the region. This situation has been exacerbated by the movement of Burkinabe refugees into the locality, fleeing terrorist attacks in neighboring Burkina. For Myss Belmonde Dogo, it is necessary to identify households living in extreme poverty so that they can benefit from the social safety net program in order to get them out of precariousness. "Tugbo is a locality of more than 4,000 souls, and the government through my ministerial department would like to launch this process to select the next beneficiaries of the social nets. The government, through my ministerial department, would like to launch this process to select the next beneficiaries of the social safety nets by entrusting the first level of responsibility to the authorities and community actors who know the people," she explained.

Concerned about the well-being of the people of the Bounkani region and particularly Tougbô, the Minister of Solidarity asked the members of this committee to be transparent in the process of identifying the beneficiaries of the program.
