It is a further step towards digital development that the shopkeepers of Montereau have just taken. Indeed, on Friday 3 September, the association signed an agreement with the CCI(Chamber of Commerce and Industry) of Seine-et-Marne to help the town's businesses improve their use of the Internet and social networks. The aim: to enable them to be better referenced online to be known by a maximum number of people.

"The challenge of digital is fundamental"

"Today, the issue of digital is fundamental for small city center merchants. We realize that very few use social networks or Google referencing in the right way, so that's why we've set up this partnership with the This is why we have set up this partnership with the shopkeepers' association, in conjunction with the municipality of Montereau," explains Antoine Carducci, head of trade and tourism at the CCI.

A partnership that will be broken down into two main actions. The first of these is the setting up of an audit for shop owners: "Each shopkeeper wishing to join the scheme will benefit from a one and a half hour support to identify their strengths and weaknesses in the use of digital technology," explains Antoine Carducci.

The second part of this agreement is the organization ofworkshops financed by the merchants' association, thanks to a subsidy from the city: "We have planned three group workshops for the end of the year, and others will follow. The first will take place in October and will have as its theme 'Google My Business: identifying and promoting your business on the web'," reveals the project manager.

"The more visible we are, the more credible we are

This support from the CCI is essential for small businesses in the city center recognizes Dominique Bruneau, president of the association of traders in Montereau: "There are two types of merchants: those who are part of a large group and who have been obliged to have an online sales site, and the small shops that sell brands, but are not part of a chain. They are a bit lost and are not part of the digital generation. As a result, they don't dare to get started. Thanks to the workshops, these merchants will be helped by an expert advisor and this is very important," he believes.

Indeed, according to the owner of the Phox shop, being well listed on the Internet is a necessity: "The more visible we are, the more credible we will be. Today, if you don't have a QR code at the entrance of the store or a website, you don't exist anymore," concludes Dominique Bruneau.
