Belgium/Mons: the station selected as one of the world's seven most beautiful stations in 2025
Mons station, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, has been included in the list of the world's seven most beautiful stations in 2025, unveiled on Monday by the Prix Versailles. It is included in this prestigious ranking alongside structures built in China, Australia, France and Saudi Arabia.
"Santiago Calatrava's aerial style, clean lines, steel forms and dazzling whiteness are the hallmarks of this cathedral bridge.drale, 165 meters long, which links the historic heart to the south and the emerging Grands Prés district to the north", praises the architecture prize.The Versailles Prize, awarded annually since 2015 at Unesco, highlights other architectural qualities of the building such as its monumental gallery, a tribute to the Queen's Gallery in Brussels, and its design that ensures a pleasant temperature even in winter.
The Montois station, inaugurated at the beginning of the year, joins other prestigious buildings in this ranking, such as Gadigal station in Sydney, Baiyun station in Guangzhou and Qasr Al Hokm station."The commitment these structures require, and their technical and aesthetic prowess, are a great credit to the community of builders. Already part of the heritage of this century, these infrastructures are renewing the role of mobility," emphasizes Jérôme Gouadain, General Secretary of the Prix Versailles.Three stations on the 2025 list will also receive a World Title (Versailles Prize, Interior Mention, Exterior Mention) at UNESCO headquarters on December 4. Each year, the Versailles Prize recognizes exemplary achievements in various fields, combining aesthetics, efficiency and commitment to heritage and the urban landscape.
