France/Saint-Christol in Gironde to celebrate 10 years of twinning
In 2008, members of the Saint-Christol festival committee launched an appeal to the Saint-Christols of France to establish contacts and, why not, organize a meeting between all these villages with the same etymology. Of all the communes contacted, only Saint-Christoly-de-Blaye in Gironde accepted the invitation.
Once the first exchanges had been established, it became clear that the two towns had many things in common: wine-growing villages, rich community life, demographics... And after several meetings, the municipal councils decided to officially ratify the twinning between the two towns: that was ten years ago, in 2015.
To celebrate this anniversary, the mayor of Saint-Christoly, Murielle Picq, decided to take up the original idea of Bruno Lescene, former president of the recently deceased Gironde twinning committee, by organizing a Hérault weekend on her territory, inviting bulls, horses and La Baragogne.
On the program: presentation of cultures, exchanges with the library, a pétanque competition, cow races in the plan with the Vitou manade, gardian games, a parade and festive evenings.
This Easter weekend, from April 19 to 21, no fewer than forty Saint-Christolains are expected to represent the municipality, the pétanque, Livre et culture, the Amis de la Baragogne and the bullfighting club, to celebrate this anniversary in style!
