Côte d'Ivoire/Koro primary school teachers trained to improve early school learning
Primary school teachers in Koro were trained in the national program to improve early school learning (PNAPAS) during a workshop held from December 27, 2024 to January 3, 2025.
This new program, which comprises three main components - reading, mathematics and remedial teaching using innovative tools - is designed to reinforce teachers' knowledge of different methodologies and content.
According to Bora Sindou, Koro's pre-school and primary education inspector, teachers have learned to use tools covering the various subjects and to produce teaching sheets based on the PNAPAS framework.
The aim of the program is to improve teaching practices so that children can strengthen their basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. It helps to overcome the difficulties encountered by primary school pupils, particularly those in the first and second years of preparatory classes (CP1 and CP2), in reading, writing and arithmetic.
The training concerns the entire primary education community, from inspectors to teachers, school principals and pedagogical advisors. CP1, CP2 and pre-school teachers are expected to apply the full content of the program. Pedagogical advisors will conduct classroom visits in reading and mathematics for trained teachers.
