On Sunday, more than twenty student associations from Bambey's Alioune Diop University (UADB) organized a day of human investment and community service in the form of a clean-up operation.

This activity is organized as a prelude to International Environment Day, which they will be commemorating on June 5 under the theme: "Plastic waste management".

Segane Mbodji, vice-rector in charge of studies at the UADB, said the initiative was in line with the policy of the university's new management, which, he said, wanted to create a pleasant living environment conducive to study and work.
He also called on students to take greater care of the cleanliness of the "temple of knowledge" by avoiding throwing plastic waste outside the garbage cans.
Ibra SENE, a Master's student in public law, urged his fellow students to get involved in protecting the environment.
That's what this day of human investment and service to the community is all about", he said.
"Improving the living environment must be the concern of everyone at the university. I call on the university authorities and student associations to make this initiative a permanent one," he added.
