On Thursday April 25, the Intercommunal Digital Public Establishment organized a training session to learn more about drones. There are many rules to be aware of if you want to use them legally.

These are perfectly identified flying objects: drones. They're becoming increasingly popular, and easy to buy and operate. However, there are rules to be aware of, and for certain types of device, a license to obtain. At the Côte Ouest Centre Manche community of communes, a training course for dronists or future dronists has been offered.

Stéphane Lefrançois is a facilitator at the public digital establishment, and is in charge of the training. "People often don't know where to start. You can buy a drone from any dealer, but you don't know how to get started, how to start flying. Just getting it up and running isn't that simple. The legislation is also very little known and very restrictive", he assures us.

Depending on the weight of the drone, you'll need a license that's more or less complicated to obtain, and more or less expensive. In any case, you must always have the drone in sight when flying it, and it must remain at a height of less than 120m. A drone weighing less than 250g does not require a permit, but it must be declared on the French civil aviation authority's website. Between 250 and 900g, you need to pass a 40-question MCQ. These two validations are free of charge. For larger drones, the cost is higher.
