The students of the Marie-de-Luxembourg secondary school in La Fère, winners of the first edition of the zero food waste challenge organized by the Chauny-Tergnier-La Fère Agglo and the Aisne Department, have put their trophy back into play.

With only 18 grams thrown away per person, the Marie-de-Luxembourg secondary school in La Fère won the first edition of the zero food waste challenge organized by the Chauny-Tergnier-La Fère agglomeration and the Aisne department last year. by the Chauny-Tergnier-La Fère Agglo and the Aisne department, ahead of their classmates from La Chesnaye in Saint-Gobain, 31 grams, Victor-Hugo in Chauny, 51 grams and Joliot-Curie in Tergnier, 86 grams.

The very good results of the schools were highlighted when the results were announced, compared to the departmental average of 150 grams wasted per person. The students from Laféro put their trophy back into play and competed against students from Chauny, Tergnier and Saint-Gobain during the week of November 14.

In order to respect a perfect equity, a common vegetarian menu had been proposed to the four schools. At the end of these meals, the leftovers were weighed and compared in order to determine which school wasted the least. The environment coordinators of the Department and the Agglo went to meet the students in the canteens in order to make them and the catering staff aware of food waste.

This action is common to the Aisne Departmental Council, which is taking action to fight food waste, and to the Chauny-Tergnier-La Fère Agglomeration Community, which is pursuing a policy of awareness-raising on sorting, reducing and recycling waste as part of its territorial project.
