Belgium/New recycling center opens in La Louvière
A recycling center has just opened its doors in the heart of La Louvière. Giving objects a second life rather than throwing them away is the project that the CPAS has been working on for many months. With financial support from the European Social Fund, the Walloon Region and the City of La Louvière, "Revalo" has a dual objective: respect for the environment and socio-professional reintegration.
Carefully displayed over 350 square metres, objects of all kinds were collected, cleaned and repaired... All received second-hand by local residents. "Every citizen can come. There's a place to park. We help them unload and see if what they bring meets our criteria," explains Louise Claerbout, Revalo coordinator. " We accept all everyday items: crockery, kitchen utensils, decorations, picture frames, mirrors, games, toys and sports equipment," she adds.
For the time being, however, "Revalo " does not accept jewelry, furniture, household appliances and the for the time being. "Furniture is a question of space and logistics. Eventually, we'll have another, bigger sorting and storage shed, so at that point we'll be able to accept them. For appliances, we need an environmental permit, as well as the skills to repair them," she explains.
