Côte d'Ivoire/ COSO project and local authorities join forces to strengthen schools in Variendougou
A three-classroom building and a pre-primary school have been officially handed over to the education authorities in Variendougou, sub-prefecture of Nafana, as part of the social cohesion project in the northern regions of the Gulf of Guinea (COSO).
The handover ceremony, held on Tuesday August 26, 2025, was attended by representatives of COSO, the local administration and educational management. The initiative illustrates the collaboration between development projects and local authorities to strengthen access to education in rural areas.
Kouamé Kouakou Edmond, COSO's head of office for the Savanes district, stressed the importance of partnership with local authorities to meet the school infrastructure needs of vulnerable populations.
For his part, Kong's primary and pre-school education inspector, Kanvaly Fadiga, urged parents to register their children to take advantage of the new facilities, while Nafana's sub-prefet of Nafana, Ibo Koré Serge Pacôme, announced measures to facilitate the issuance of birth certificates, an essential condition for school enrolment.
Prior to the construction of these buildings, classes were held under a precarious shelter, exposing pupils to the elements.
