Belgium/Brussels firefighters donate four ambulances to colleagues in Ukraine
According to the Brussels fire department, the donation is a further step in Brussels' solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who have been hard hit by the war.
This is the third time that the Brussels fire department has transferred equipment to Ukraine since the start of the war there, say the Brussels fire brigade in a press release.
"In 2022, a first donation of two ambulances was made on the initiative of former Secretary of State Pascal Smet, who travelled to Kiev with the Mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close. This was followed in 2024 by a second donation of three ambulances, two fire engines and various equipment. This latest initiative brings the total to eight ambulances and five fire engines".
Another useful donation, according to the management of the Brussels fire department. "The challenges are considerable: in addition to logistical organization, this type of transport also involves a great deal of administration. We know from our contacts that our Ukrainian colleagues are particularly grateful. "
The Brussels firefighters report that direct contact with the fire departments in Kiev and Kharkiv is often complicated, due to the war and language barriers, but that the link between the cities remains strong and that "regular trips by Brussels delegations to Kiev keep this connection alive".
