The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is inviting national, regional and local governments, as well as non-governmental organizations, to express their interest in organizing World Clean-up Day 2026.

World Clean-up Day was established on December 8, 2023 by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and is celebrated annually on September 20. The day aims to address global waste management challenges, notably through coordinated voluntary action.

The theme of the 2026 edition is: " Local action as a foundation for global change ", with a particular focus on food waste.
