L'Art de jouer: transforming school hours into playful moments
An innovative and creative training course entitled "Workshops in the design and production of serious games for language teachers" was held from October 27 to 29 at the Campus Numérique Francophone (CNF) in Hanoi. Aimed at teachers from AUF member universities in Hanoi, the workshops attracted over fifteen participants.
The main aim of these workshops was to:
- Provide teachers with innovative ways to improve their teaching effectiveness;
- Stimulate teachers' creative thinking by helping them design unique learning activities through the creation of games;
- Link theoretical concepts to practical applications by enabling them to design and produce concrete games;
The workshops were privileged to count on the expertise of Mr. John Kenwright, educational consultant and serious games designer at Grenoble INP - UGA (Engineering and Management Schools), who acted as lead trainer. During these sessions, he shared his experience on best practices in educational game design, as well as innovative strategies for energizing learning and fostering participant engagement.
"The trainer, John Kenwright, was very kind and helpful, offering us clear and captivating presentations on the design of these games. He also showed us how to integrate them effectively into our French as a Foreign Language courses or specialized French courses. What I particularly appreciated was that we all had the opportunity to create our own serious game, by clearly defining our pedagogical objectives. It was a very enriching experience. Thank you, John. Thank you AUF! "shared Ms Phuong Nga, French teacher at Hanoi University.
The working sessions covered practical topics such as:
- How to design a card game;
- How to design communication, debate and improvisation games;
- How to design game boards with visual management of target skills;
- How to customize serious games and models for my own audiences;
- Games for job interviews;
- Discover meta-scripting and several graphic environments;
- Good tools and practical advice for producing my own challenges.
This course has been an invaluable resource for participants, enabling them to acquire practical skills in the design of captivating educational games. By learning how to create communication games, game boards and tailor-made tools for their audience, they can transform their teaching methods into dynamic and engaging experiences.
