Vitré (Ille-et-Vilaine) is twinned with eight cities around the world. We are looking for families to host certain groups.

Vitré (Ille-et-Vilaine), the town with eight twinning links, is preparing for exchanges in 2024 with Sroda (Poland), Canandaigua (USA), Talmaciu (Romania), Terrebonne (Quebec), Lymington (England) and Helmstedt (Germany).

72 members

The twinning committee, chaired by Odile Bouvet, has 25 elected members. "For each town, there is a person in charge", she reminded the 72 members present at the general meeting on Monday March 25.

Some take part in English and Spanish language courses, while others have forged or will forge links with families in the twin towns.

Kick-off in May

The program kicks off in May with a group of nine people from Canandaigua, from May 1 to 5. At the same time, Yveline Jacob, the person in charge, is organizing exchanges between students from the Lycée Bertrand-d'Argentré and students from a high school in the American town.

Next up, from July 8 to 24, a 39-strong delegation will visit Sroda. "A wonderful discovery of Poland is planned, with overnight stays with families and in hotels," confirms Magaly Garreau, who is in charge of the trip.

The program continues with a group from Talmaciu from July 24 to 28, a delegation from Terrebonne from August 20 to 24, and from Lymington from September 20 to 24.

Families wanted

" A few families are still being approached for accommodations," we added. The year 2024 will end with a visit to Helmstedt, from December 1 to 7, on the theme of Christmas markets, with an overnight stay in Trier on the outward journey and one in Bonn on the return.

The Twinning Committee will also be providing financial support for 35 Sainte-Marie pupils to travel to Helmstedt and 24 Bertrand d'Argentré pupils to Sroda, as well as for internships in the twin towns.

Finally, on the subject of memberships, the increase in the membership fee for families from 20 to 22 euros was approved. By 2023, the number had risen to 182.
