Vietnam/Stronger strategic partnership between Vietnam and China

As part of his visit to China, Lê Hoài Trung, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and head of the Party's Central Commission for External Relations, held talks on Monday March 18 in Jilin province with Liu Jianchao, member of the Party Central Committee and head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The two sides discussed the situation of each Party and each country, and hailed the significant advances in bilateral relations since the historic visits of the two countries' top leaders in 2022 and 2023.

The two men exchanged views on the important visions adopted by the top leaders of the two countries to enhance the integral bilateral strategic partnership and build a community of shared values.and to build a community of shared future between Vietnam and China, in the interests of humanity and the common prosperity of the two peoples.

They also agreed to promote exchanges at all levels, including between the two parties, and to strengthen multi-sector cooperation, particularly in defense and security, as well as decentralized cooperation.

As the two parties' strategic advisory bodies on external relations, the External Relations Commission of the VCP Central Committee and the International Liaison Department of the CCP Central Committee will strengthen coordination between the two parties. Committee will strengthen coordination and cooperation to promote the strategic orientations of the Parties' channel, and continue to develop their healthy, stable and lasting relations.

Lê Hoài Trung affirmed that Vietnam regards the development of ties with China as a top priority and its strategic choice in its independent and autonomous foreign policy.

Liu Jianchao, for his part, affirmed that China considers Vietnam a priority in its foreign policy, and that the development of cooperative relations with Vietnam is a strategic choice in its neighborly foreign policy. China supports Vietnam's strategic autonomy to promote its greater role in the region and the world.

With regard to maritime issues, Lê Hoài Trung called on both sides to consolidate the common perception of the importance of maintaining peace and stability at sea, and to coordinate to settle maritime issues satisfactorily, respecting international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

It is necessary to resolve disagreements by peaceful means, in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; to effectively promote mechanisms for negotiation on maritime issues; to seriously and effectively implement the Declaration on the Law of the Sea and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and to speed up the drafting of a substantial and effective Code of Conduct for Parties in the East Sea, in accordance with international law, he proposed.

During his stay in Jilin province, Lê Hoài Trung will meet with Jing Junhai, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Jilin Provincial People's Assembly, to discuss guidelines for promoting economic, trade, investment, cultural and tourism cooperation. He will also visit some local economic and cultural establishments.
