The deputy mayor of Brazzaville, Dieudonné Bantsimba, held a working session on February 19 with a delegation from the French city of Reims, led by the vice-mayor, Jean-Pierre Fortuné.

Discussions between the two delegations focused in particular on the water and sanitation project for the city of Brazzaville. The French delegation promised to send an expert in the very next few days to work with the city's mayor's office to identify areas requiring specific treatment as part of the project. "This morning's meeting follows on from the one we held in September 2023, at which we presented the broad outlines of the project. Today, we have decided on its main objectives", said Jean-Pierre Fortuné.

The aim of the current mission, he continued, is to define the contours of the project, which can be summed up as the pre-identification and determination of the type of action to be carried out, as well as the specification of each party's role. The mission should also enable us to gain a better understanding of the local context and the players involved in the sector," he concluded.

The cities of Reims and Brazzaville signed their first cooperation agreements in July 1961, under the mandates of Jean Taittinger and Fulbert Youlou. After a long period of inactivity, exchanges resumed in 2005, then 2016 and 2018 under Arnaud Robinet's term of office, accompanied by commitments in principle by both parties.

Jean-Pierre Fortuné and Dieudonné Bantsimba met for the first time in Tinqueux in June 2023, then for the second time in Brazzaville in September of the same year. The two elected representatives proposed to study the resumption of exchanges between the two local authorities under the prism of decentralized cooperation, with actions that could focus on the water and sanitation sector.
