France/ Twinning: Nogent-le-Rotrou welcomes 13 inhabitants of Baiersbronn on May 1st weekend
From April 28 to May 1, 2023, 13 inhabitants of Baiersbronn, a town twinned with Nogent-le-Rotrou, will travel to the Perche to perpetuate the exchanges.
For three years, due to the health crisis, the annual exchanges have not been possible with the inhabitants of Baiersbronn (Germany), a town twinned with Nogent-le-Rotrou (Eure-et-Loir). With the situation almost back to normal, 13 Germans, including Michael Ruf, the mayor of Baiersbronn, will travel to the Perche, between April 28 and May 1, 2023, for the 59th year of twinning. A short, but intensive stay.
The last time was in 2019, and François Huwart, mayor of Nogent at the time, had received a medal from the German city.
A visit to the gardens of Chaumont-sur-Loire
Catherine Catesson, president of the twinning committee of Nogent, presented the program of the weekend. A welcome drink on Friday evening, in the Salle des Colonnes, accompanied by classical music. A tour to the market of Nogent the next morning then a visit of the castle in the afternoon.
On Sunday, an outing is planned to Chaumont-sur-Loire, to visit its exceptional gardens as part of the International Garden Festival. This year's theme: resilient garden. And the weekend is almost over already, as visitors will have to leave on Monday morning.
The 60th anniversary already in preparation
The twinning committee also had in mind exchanges between soccer teams, between choirs or between artists. All this will perhaps be postponed until next year, for the 60th year of twinning. "This weekend will also be an opportunity to prepare for next year," says Catherine Catesson. The twenty or so members of the committee hope to go to Baiersbronn, "a town very well known in Germany for its cures", next year.
A point with Midhurst and Wayne
In addition to its twinning with Baiersbronn, Nogent-le-Rotrou is also twinned with Midhurst (England), although the committee explains that relations are currently "at a standstill ".
On the other hand, with Wayne (United States), with which the city has been twinned for three years, the committee has let it be known that it could be invited to Chicago, Illinois, in 2024.
According to them, the American city would have affixed a plate "twin city with Nogent-le-Rotrou" at the entrance of the city, which gave the idea to the Nogentais to do the same. With the communication well established, all that remains is the exchange with the Americans.
