Canada/Taschereau municipality adopts a participatory budget
The municipal council of Taschereau in Abitibi-Ouest presented the details of its participatory budget on Wednesday evening.
The mayor, Michaël Otis, wishes to encourage citizen involvement.
It is to be able to offer a part of the municipal budget to citizens who can directly make requests for projects, structural capital assets to the council without being obliged to go directly by making a request through the council. There will be a committee that will review project requests," he said.
Taschereau has set aside an envelope of $10,000 for this participatory budget, including $2,500 for youth aged 12 to 16.
The projects must always be in the perspective of being able to target the largest part of the population. They must be structuring projects. It must be carried out in the Taschereau sector. Obviously, it must respect the budget and the various regulations and laws that we have in the municipality," adds Michaël Otis.
At the presentation of the project on Wednesday night, citizens put forward some ideas such as a thrift store, facilities to improve a park and the creation of a festival.
Project applications for the youth component are due in April and the others in May.
