Burkina Faso-Italy/Twinning between Policoro in Italy and Dapelogo in Burkina Faso: The actors lay the foundations
The municipalities of Policoro in Italy and Dapelogo in Burkina Faso are laying the foundations for a twinning. On the occasion of a virtual meeting held on May 12, 2022, the municipal leaders of the two cities exchanged on the outlines of a future twinning. This twinning will concern the cultural, economic and social aspects for the well-being of the populations of Policoro in Italy and Dapelogo in Burkina Faso.
The municipalities of Policoro in Italy and Dapélogo in Burkina Faso want to write together a new page of decentralized cooperation. Indeed, on Thursday, May 12, 2022 took place a virtual meeting between the actors of local development of these two entities. Objectives: to lay the foundations for a fruitful twinning between the two municipalities.
The meeting was attended by the mayor of the city of Policoro, Dr. Enrico Mascia, the Secretary General of the town hall of Dapelogo, Salif Guira, the provisional president of the twinning committee, Daouda Emmanuel, and the president of the city council of Dapelogo. of the twinning committee, Daouda Emile Ouedraogo, of Pr Pietro Venezia, initiator of the project, under the benevolent eye of his Excellency the ambassador of Italy in Burkina Faso, SEM Andrea Romussi. To kill two birds with one stone, teachers from the high schools and colleges of Dapelogo and those of Policoro took part in the meeting in order to initiate the cultural exchange between the high schools of the two towns.
At the outset, the provisional president of the twinning committee, Daouda Emile Ouédraogo presented the framework of the meeting. He explained the need for the two cities to promote a fruitful cultural, economic and social exchange. "This process of twinning will allow the populations of the two towns to promote dynamic cultural, economic and social exchanges for the populations of Policoro and those of Dapelogo" said Daouda Emile Ouedraogo.
The mayor of Policoro, Dr. Enrico Macia, welcomed this initiative. According to the mayor, this twinning will allow the development of friendly relations and beneficial and useful cooperation for the populations. He promised to submit the project to the Municipal Council of Policoro in its meeting of May 19, 2022. The Italian ambassador to Burkina Faso, His Excellency Andrea Romussi thanked the participants for this initiative. "It contributes to strengthening the link between Italy and Burkina Faso," he said.
First act: cultural mixing between high school students
The first act of this twinning, the groundwork for which has already been laid, is the establishment of links between the high school students of Policoro and those of Dapelogo. Taking part in the meeting, the teachers of the high schools and colleges of the two towns welcomed the initiative. They said they were willing to take the necessary steps to make this cultural exchange between the students a success. This cultural mixing will allow both entities to learn from each other's cultures, in mutual respect. It will also allow to promote learning and sharing of pedagogical experiences in order to create the conditions for a harmonious development between the students.
In the near future, the students of Dapelogo will exchange with the students of the Technical High School of Policoro in order to start their activities. As for Professor Pietro Venezia, initiator of this project, he welcomed the extraordinary beginning of this twinning. It will allow a dynamic exchange of cultural and economic cooperation between the two cities and therefore, between the two countries. The Prefect of Dapelogo, Mrs. Zida/Sawadogo Christine excused herself because of the celebration of a civil marriage at the town hall of Dapelogo. Both parties wished to see the establishment of a special communal delegation in Dapelogo in order to concretize this twinning.
