Morocco/Higher education: the economic actors of Casablanca-Settat united during the regional meeting of the ESRI 2030 PACT
The recommendations resulting from meetings organized by all universities in the Casablanca-Settat region as part of the Plan to accelerate the transformation of the ecosystem of higher education, scientific research and innovation, were shared at the regional meetings held Tuesday, May 10 in Casablanca. The event was an opportunity to revisit the role that the Moroccan university must play in economic, territorial and social development.
In an ever-changing world, the Moroccan university is called upon to play a full role in the economic, social and territorial development of the country. To achieve this, efforts must be converged to enable young people to develop their skills, particularly creativity and entrepreneurship, and thus become a force of proposal in various fields. These are the main ideas that were exchanged during the regional conference of Casablanca-Settat. Organized by the universities of the Casablanca-Settat region on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 in Casablanca, these conferences are part of the co-construction of the Plan foraccelerating the transformation of the ecosystem of higher education, scientific research and innovation (PACTE ESRI 2030). They are the culmination of a new dynamic initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, with an approach based primarily on active and constructive listening to the university ecosystem and its territorial, economic and social environment.
"These meetings are the result of a series of meetings organized by the six universities since January 2022, involving the entire ecosystem of the Casablanca-Settat region, including regional, economic, social and institutional actors. These meetings were organized by the six universities since January 2022, involving the entire ecosystem of the Casablanca-Settat region, including regional, economic, social, institutional and academic actors, to discuss and present their recommendations and perceptions on the new model of the Moroccan university," said the organizers of this event. These recommendations, they add, are summarized as follows: the adaptation of the training offer to the needs of society and the various trades, the support of entrepreneurship, the promotion of research and innovation and the development of the structures of the region. In the opinion of the participants, these recommendations find their interest insofar as the university, as an indispensable pillar of the country's development, operates today in an environment in full change. It is therefore called to "move" as clearly stated by the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, in his speech.
"The University must be at the heart of transformations while taking into account the changes that the world knows," said the government official who insists, in this regard, on the importance of adopting a co-constructive approach and involve civil society. For her part, Nabila Rmili, mayor of Casablanca, recalled the importance of strengthening the role of Moroccan universities, particularly those in the region of Casablanca-Settat. Indeed, she added, this region includes most of the Kingdom's industrial units and investments and offers employment opportunities and entrepreneurship to young people, hence the need to strengthen its academic institutions. To do this, the speaker believes that efforts must be converged in a participatory approach to serve a regional development, and therefore, comprehensive. Nabila Rmili was also keen to emphasize the strategic importance of the ESRI 2030 PACT. This plan, whose objectives have been drawn up in harmony with those of the new development model, is based in its implementation on the priorities of the government program 2021-20.s of the government program 2021-2026, particularly the one related to the improvement of human skills, considered as an important pillar for the development of the country. Note that at the end of the conference, several partnership agreements will be signed between universities and various actors in the region. These agreements aim to strengthen the role of the university as a locomotive of regional development. They cover several areas, including innovation and technology transfer.
