The Cameroonian Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga-Obam, accompanied by his colleague in charge of transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, the Director General of the Special Fund for Equipment and Inter-municipal Intervention (Feicom), Philippe Camille Akoa, and Richard Mfeungwang, the new mayor of the said municipality, proceeded on May 6 to the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Douala 5th City Council.

12 years after the launch of the construction site, by Françoise Foning Tsobny, former Mayor of Douala 5th, who passed away in 2015, the architectural jewel was inaugurated today. The building is built on an area of 3223 m², with 5 floors, a garden level, a first floor, a mezzanine plus two floors. In total, 85 offices, a meeting room, 20 toilet blocks, 3 rooms of acts, a media library, a business incubator are part of the beautiful building that forces admiration for a town known as hospitable land.

According to Georges Elanga-Obam, this project is in line with the national development strategy 2020-2030 which states in its point 416 that "the Government intends to improve the working environment of public officials through the setting and compliance with standards in terms of workspace and adequate equipment. It also aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 9 and 11, which relate to infrastructure and sustainable cities and communities respectively.

"This is an opportunity for me to note the greatness of the personality and the work, whose implementation enamelled of difficulties, revealed the determination of the actors to lead it to its end. And baptize the multipurpose hall with a capacity of 500 to 1000 seats in the name of the late Francoise Foning, businesswoman and politician, is really a deserved tribute to this lady who has worked hard in this administrative district, "said a resident.

It is important to note that this infrastructure, which is the pride of the Cameroonian people in general and the city of Douala in particular, was built with support from the Special Fund for Equipment and Intercommunal Intervention (Feicom), the bank of municipalities. The realization of this project as well as its furnishing have swallowed a bagatelle of about two billion 900 million FCFA.
