Benin/Xwlacodji: Displaced populations receive their cheques and plots

A promise is a promise. The government has been compensating the displaced populations of Xwlacodji since Friday 15 October. The first beneficiaries received their cheques and plots of land during the official launching ceremony of the compensation and re-housing operation in Sèmè-Podji.

The State is offering each of the 368 families concerned the sum of five million CFA francs plus a 200 m2 plot of land with title to Djeffa Beach. During the official launch of the compensation phase, a hundred beneficiaries received their cheques and plots. The ceremony, placed under the authority of the prefects of the Littoral, Alain Orounla and Ouémé departments, Marie Akpotrossou, was attended by the Director General of theThe ceremony was attended by the Director General of the National Land Agency, Victorien Kougblénou, the mayor of Sèmè-Podji, Jonas Gbènamèto, and many other executives and personalities of the structures involved in the process. The highly social gesture of the government is well received in the ranks of the beneficiaries who did not fail to express their relief and thank the Beninese Executive. The 368 families now become inhabitants of Sèmè-Podji.

The rehousing and financial support of the former occupants of the sites to be developed in the Xwlacodji district of Cotonou were decided by the Council of Ministers on September 15.

These supports in the form of compensation bonuses were allocated to them in order to facilitate their resettlement on the new site.
