The Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, was received in audience in Yaounde on September 13, by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya. "The dialogue underway between Malabo and Yaounde should lead to the strengthening of cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector," said the Presidency of the Republic.

According to the Equatorial Guinean minister, the strengthening of cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector is not only aimed at Cameroon. In this regard, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima said he recently chartered a first cargo of methanol to neighboring Gabon. And that discussions are underway with Nigeria for the importation of oil and gas to Equatorial Guinea.

President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo's emissary said he had come to "present" to the head of state, the "new initiative of Equatorial Guinea to strengthen trade between African states and at the same time, seek the blessing of President Paul Biya. Without saying more, he said that "President Paul Biya has deemed this initiative good for the development of our economies, especially in this difficult period.

The member of the government indicated that Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea are convinced that economic development in the Cemac zone (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad) requires a strengthening of trade between member countries and with other states of the continent. Because, "we cannot always depend on trade with the United States, Europe or Asia. We need to trade among ourselves," the Equatorial Guinean minister noted.
