The National Agency for the Identification of Persons (Anip) proceeded to the distribution of biometric identity cards to the population of the department of Ouémé. The ceremony took place on Thursday 15 April 2021 in Porto-Novo.

The people who applied in Ouémé received their biometric identity cards on Thursday. Aurélien Agbénonci, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, a native of the department of Ouémé, symbolically received his card during the distribution. For Cyrille Gougbédji, managing agent of Anip, the biometric national identity card is issued to replace the old national identity card and is part of a government project to establish a platform of services for the benefit of Beninese.
According to him, 45,000 cards have already been issued and are being distributed.
Fernand Agbayahoun, representing the prefect of Ouémé, invited the population to get biometric cards.
