Togo

The Togolese government adopted this week a series of projects that now pave the way for the organization of the country's next regional elections.

In Togo, the way is now open for the organization of regional elections, necessary to complete the decentralization process. The government adopted on Thursday in the Council of Ministers three bills, thus endorsing the conclusions of the work of the National Concertation of Political Actors (CNAP) which ended last July.

The texts adopted concern respectively the electoral code, the law on decentralisation and local liberties, and the law on freedom of assembly and public demonstrations. These changes were agreed upon by the country's main political actors at the end of their 28 meetings, aimed at facilitating the organisation of the regional elections. As a reminder, these elections will make it possible to choose councillors, who will constitute the various organs of the regions, which have become territorial communities in the same way as the communes since 2019.
