Boaters operating in Grand-Baie have long deplored the lack of a safe embarkation point in the bay for Mauritian tourists and holidaymakers. Sea Blue Mountain Ltd has decided to respond to this need, and has indicated its intention to offer a safe embarkation and disembarkation point for boat owners and tour operators (catamarans, pleasure boats, fishing boats).

Three plots of land will be put to good use. Sanjiv Ramdanee, owner of BAI's former Kapukai in Grand-Baie, is spearheading the project to create a marina in Grand-Baie. The marina will consist of a floating polyethylene pontoon capable of accommodating up to 20 boats. The floating pontoon, measuring 42 x 17 m, will be connected to the existing stone jetty on the site. It will be anchored using propellers and bungee cords.

For the developer, the construction of the marina will not require extensive earthworks and building work. The floating pontoon will also be equipped with a water and electricity supply. The advantage of the Candock floating pontoon, notes the developer, is that it is environmentally friendly. Candock cubes are guaranteed for life, require no maintenance, do not degrade and are easy to assemble. What's more, they are highly resistant to tides and adverse weather conditions.

Before going ahead with the project, Sea Blue Mountain Ltd intends to hold a meeting with local residents tomorrow at 5pm at the village hall in Grand-Baie to inform them of the project's relevance. This meeting is deemed necessary for the promoter to obtain its EIA Certificate from the Ministry of the Environment.
