Canada/$4.3 million surplus in Gaspé
In Gaspé, the Town closes its 2025 fiscal year with a surplus of $4.3 million.
However, a significant part of the surplus comes from one-off revenues, notably from recycling and vacancies. Once these elements are removed, the real surplus is estimated at 2.3 million. The mayor speaks of tight management, with long-term debt deemed stable.
"So, usually the surplus rolls over. Every year, we're obliged to finish with a surplus. Every year, the surplus rolls over, either to help balance the annual budget, or for development projects, or to repair breakdowns during the year," explains Mayor Daniel Côté.
