Drinking water will soon be flowing into households in seven of Benin's communes. These are the communes of Karimama, Cobly, Gogounou, Toucountouna, Copargo, Allada and Nikki. The decision was taken by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday July 17, 2024.

It was therefore decided to contract out the construction of boreholes as part of the drinking water supply project in these towns. In all, one hundred and eighteen (118) boreholes and eleven (11) piezometers will be drilled in these towns, with a view to increasing production levels and boosting the supply of drinking water to the population.

To this end, preliminary design studies have already been carried out and detailed engineering studies are underway. Tenders for the execution of these projects having proved unsuccessful, the Board has authorized the contracting of experienced companies with a proven track record. The Minister of Energy, Water and Mines must ensure that contractual deadlines are met.
