JOB: CARRIERS LOOKING FOR DRIVERS DESPERATELY

Mise en ligne le 27 avril à 19:41

Description :

Well-paid and renewed, the profession of road driver is expanding and struggling to find candidates. In the Hauts-de-France region, hauliers were looking for 1,000 immediately.

Urgent: road transport companies in the Hauts-de-France are looking for between 700 and 1,000 drivers. These positions are to be filled immediately.

Franck Behra, manager of the Vecanord company, which has just been labelled "Employment Ambassador" for the region, confirms: "It's very simple, our companies need 3,000 drivers a year. But we only train 2,000 of them. So we are recruiting massively."

Numerous vacancies
Due to the lack of drivers in the Hauts-de-France: the lack of image of the profession. "We haven't been able, over the last few years, to sufficiently promote our profession, which has nevertheless changed a lot," explains Franck Behra.

Attracting more young people, with a modernised image: this important issue is at the heart of the "Transport Employment Ambassador Charter", signed on 27 February 2019 at the Hôtel de Région in Lille with five companies in the sector.

Higher compensation than other sectors
The arrival of new processes and the emergence of "new generation" trucks are indeed playing in favour of a new attraction for the trade. Not to mention the remuneration, which is much higher than in other sectors.

"Today, a beginner driver's pay can be around 1,500 euros net, while spending evenings at home," continues Franck Behra.

An accessible job with 4 to 5 months of training
If you're interested in the profession, there are two ways to get there:

the cape and the pro driver's ferry
specific training of 4 to 5 months, including the heavy goods vehicle and super heavy goods vehicle licence, for professionals undergoing retraining
Note that the profession is obviously not reserved for men, with a feminisation of the workforce that is gradually progressing. In addition to drivers, the sector is also looking for many truck mechanics and operators. "Here again, with the digital tool, the profession has changed. A logistics operator must have cross-functional skills, especially legal, commercial and organisational skills," concludes Franck Behra.
