Unique in Africa and in the Arab world, this laboratory will be in charge, according to this agreement, of the development of research for the fight against leishmaniasis as well as the training of doctors and the exchange of expeditions. The head of Rabta's dermatological and sexual diseases department, Mourad Mokni, told the TAP agency on Friday during a meeting with the WHO representative in Tunis, Dr. Yves Souteyrand.

Leishmaniases are parasitic diseases causing skin or visceral affections that are very disabling, even fatal if left untreated. They are caused by different parasites of the genus Leishmania, transmitted by the bites of insects commonly known as sandflies.
