“We must not ignore the turmoil in today’s world.”
As part of European Days, a delegation from Pontorson visited Wassenberg. Twinning committees are much more than just delegations that travel to the twin town once a year. “Today, more than ever, we see that periods of war outnumber periods of peace. Peace is the exception; we must continue to sustain this friendship and, above all, not ignore the turbulence of today’s world,”the board states.
The French twinning association also participates in commemorative events, such as laying wreaths together with their friends from across the Rhine. This includes the memorial services organized by the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge at the German military ossuary in Huisnes-sur-Mer.
“On Saturday, November 14, at 3 p.m.—a day of national mourning in Germany—we will pay tribute to the victims laid to rest in the only German military mausoleum on French soil,” explain co-chairs Maëva Moubèche and Claude Baron.
