Thirty women from the Kaolack and Fatick regions (central Senegal) received training in leadership and governance of farmers’ organizations as part of an initiative aimed at building their capacity in agricultural entrepreneurship.

The training, organized with the support of BBV-LIZ GmbH (the Bavarian Farmers’ Association in Germany), concluded on Friday at the Kaolack Departmental Council with a ceremony to present certificates to the participants.

“We believe that Senegalese women have a great deal of practical expertise, and we simply want to strengthen their capacities,” said Angelika Eberl, senior project manager at BBV-LIZ GmbH.

She announced that this collaboration would continue through other training programs focusing, in particular, on agribusiness and vegetable farming.

Learning exchanges between Senegalese and German women are also planned as part of this partnership, she added.

“We want to engage in dialogue among women, learn from one another, and support each other,” explained Ms. Eberl.

‎‎The president of the Saloum Maize Producers Federation (FEPROMAS), Nimna Diayté, noted that upon their return to their respective regions, the participants will be expected to share the knowledge they have gained with other women’s groups.

She praised this initiative, which, in her view, helps build the capacity of women engaged in agricultural activities.

Ms. Diayté also urged the partner to expand the program in order to increase the number of women beneficiaries in future training sessions.
