On Monday, September 28, 2026, in Lomé, the Togo AI Lab organized a public testing session for its “Voix du Togo” platform, designed to provide access to public services in local languages. This pilot phase aims to gather feedback from users with diverse profiles in order to evaluate the platform’s usability, the ease of understanding its features, and its suitability for the needs of future users.

AI Designed for National Languages

The project is launching with three pilot languages—Kabiyè, Ewé, and Moba—with plans to expand to all of Togo’s approximately 50 languages. “ The goal of the project is that, eventually, we’ll be able to access various public services in our local languages,” explains Amatré Cynthia-Ornella Klutse, head of the Togo AI project. She notes that participants were selected based on the languages they speak to ensure a diverse range of feedback.

This initiative is part of the National Local Languages Challenge, presented in July at the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva. The program, led by the Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation, in partnership with Zindi, Umbaji, and the CEGA at the University of California, Berkeley, aims to build voice and text databases to train artificial intelligence models tailored to the linguistic realities of Togo.

A National Strategy Taking Shape

This project is part of a broader national strategy for the development of artificial intelligence. The Togo AI Lab now boasts more than 35 research and innovation projects, more than 10 institutional collaborations, and a community of over 1,500 members.

A few weeks earlier, the country had also organized the Togo AI Summer School, which trained 100 students, researchers, and professionals selected from among more than 300 applicants.
