Canada / $350,000 to improve four schoolyards in Sorel-Tracy
State Representative Jean-Bernard Émond announced an investment of $353,610, which will fund four schoolyard improvement projects in the region. Education Minister Sonia Lebel hopes this will provide students with environments that encourage play, physical activity, and learning.
These four projects are aimed at elementary schools in the Sorel-Tracy School Service Center. They include landscaping and the installation of a psychomotor course with outdoor furniture at Maria-Goretti, the installation of a synthetic surface and a recreation area with outdoor furniture at Saint-Gabriel-Lalemant, the installation of a synthetic surface and the planting of trees at Saint-Jean-Bosco, as well as the installation of an obstacle course and the planting of shrubs at Au Petit Bois School.
“Our government is continuing to invest in order to provide young people with modern, safe school facilities that are tailored to their needs. The improvements to be made at these four schools in the riding will help make schoolyards more attractive and conducive to physical activity, student development, and their daily well-being. This is excellent news for families in the region,” said Jean-Bernard Émond, Member of the National Assembly for Richelieu.
“We gratefully welcome this investment, which will improve the schoolyards at four of our schools. These upgrades will provide our students with stimulating and safe spaces that encourage play, physical activity, and positive interactions. This is a concrete way to support their well-being and development on a daily basis,” says Jonathan Charbonneau, Executive Director of the Sorel-Tracy School Service Center.
This announcement is part of the “School Playground Improvements” initiative under the Quebec Infrastructure Plan. In November 2024, the government announced $29 million to fund 310 school playground improvement projects across Quebec. In the Montérégie region, there are 49 projects totaling nearly $4.5 million.
